The listing worksheet is a brainstorming exercise asking students to list things that they see, hear, smell, do, make and eat during the holidays. This task can be completed solo, in pairs, or in small groups. Use this activity to prepare students for a follow-up class discussion or writing assignment.

Matching Worksheets

Students draw a line connecting each picture to the matching word. 12 words per page. This activity is practices word recognition of, in the Christmas set, mostly singular, plural and proper nouns.

Sorting Worksheets

These worksheets ask students to sort the vocabulary words into groups based on their personal opinions. Both worksheets are solo activities, though students could pair up to compare their answers afterwards– maybe with the task of finding someone with the same (or different) answers. This activity is meant to build up to small group or whole-class discussion.

  • Worksheet 1I like /do not like (mostly plural nouns)
  • Worksheet 2 I like /do not like (activities, -ing form)

Christmas Surveys

Surveys require students to pair up, interview classmates and record the answers. Both Christmas surveys are circle-the-answer activities– Survey 1 is Yes/No while Survey 2 practices frequency adverbs: Always/Sometimes/Never. All surveys beg for follow-up activities such as reporting answers to the class or converting the data into either written sentences or a class chart.

  • Survey 2 – Do you ever ___ ?  + verb + object

Word Scrambles

Students unscramble mixed-up letters to spell the words correctly. 12 words per page, though the word “presents” appears on each worksheet. Word puzzles are a fun way to review vocabulary and spelling, either as a warm-up or filler activity.

Find Someone Who… Games

This traditional conversation game engages everybody in class all at once. The page lists incomplete statements, such as “___ has gone sledding.” Students must get up and talk to each other to find the information they need to complete the task: finish every sentence with the name of a different classmate.
