Practice spelling patterns with Short Vowel Word Families.
These flashcards have three rhyming words on each card. The three words share the same short vowel sound and the same final consonant or digraph. Most word families have two separate cards, meaning six words in total which share an ending sound. For example:
Card 1: cub, tub sub
Card 2: club, grub, stub
The word families are divided into 5 sets, grouped by vowel sound: short a, e, i, o, u. Each vowel sound set has a different colour border for easy sorting. The words in each family includes 3-, 4- and 5-letter words. Most word families include at least one word with a consonant blend (fl-, gr-) and/or consonant digraph (sh-, wh-, th-, ch-).
Spelling pattern cards are included at the end of each set.
