Description

The Animals A-Z Worksheets match up perfectly with the Animals A-Z Flashcards to bring you ready-made activities for teaching the names of some less common animals. The worksheets use the same simple black and white illustrations of 54 different animals as you will find in the flashcard set.

There are animals whose names start with almost every letter of the alphabet, except x.

The vocabulary is divided into six groups. Easier, 1-syllable animal words are gathered into in Group 1. The word groupings gradually advance in difficulty to the multi-syllable and harder to pronounce words of Group 6. The worksheets correspond with these groupings, so if you’re teaching a mixed-level class you can assign worksheets to students based on their ability. Or if you’re only teaching the easier words, you don’t have to worry about barracudas getting mixed in 🙂

Animal Vocabulary Groups:

Group 1:
bat, bee, deer, fox, goat, seal, swan, wolf, yak

Group 2:
bear, bird, boar, camel, eagle, frog, panda, shark, whale

Group 3:
beetle, cobra, giraffe, hedgehog, lizard, narwhal, penguin, turtle, walrus

Group 4:
bulldog, donkey, goldfish, iguana, lobster, ostrich, rabbit, vulture, zebra

Group 5:
alligator, barracuda, butterfly, dragonfly, jaguar, kangaroo, scorpion, toucan, quail

Group 6:
armadillo, chimpanzee, elephant, hippopotamus, manatee, octopus, rhinoceros, seahorse, unau

In addition to the vocab-building exercises like labelling the pictures and matching word to image, a few different interactive activities will prompt your students to expand their conversation skills. For example, after students sort their animals, task them with finding a classmate with a similar (or different) list. Similarly, Find Someone Who… games and surveys can be followed up with whole-class discussions or maybe even debates 🙂
