Description
The Long Vowel Sounds word sets include spellings with final e as well as vowel digraphs.
Words with long A, I, and O that use the final e pattern (as in: make, bite, rope) appear in their own card sets. For additional practice with final e, try the Final E Word Pairs set.
Examples of long vowel sounds spelled with vowel digraphs (ay, ai, ee, ea, ie, igh, oa and ow) appear in separate sets of cards.
I find the long u sound the most confusing. Remember, long vowels say their name. So long u says “you” not “oo” as in “blue”. You’ll find word cards with the short and long “oo” sounds in the More Vowel Sounds post.
Sets are colour coded by border colour. If a vowel sound has two sets, both have the same colour border.

They are very nice, but I like to use sets that are one discreet skill, such as igh (not i_e or not with any r-controlled spellings). If you removed the r-controlled spellings, that would make them much better.
Karen –
Thank you for the feedback. Sorry though, I’m not sure I know what you mean… 😕 The r-controlled vowels are in a separate set.
Stacie –
I use these lists and cards with my 3rd grade students daily. Thank you so much for putting these together.
