A set of 26 lowercase alphabet flashcards with brightly coloured borders.
The border colours match those of the CVC word group flashcards. That is, the letters in this alphabet set are colour coded as follows:
Green: s a t p i n (Group 1)
Yellow: c k e h r m d (Group 2)
Blue: g o u l f b (Group 3)
Purple: j z w v y x (and q) (Group 4)
In the CVC Word Group Set 1, all 23 words are formed with the 6 letters: s, a, t, p, i and n. I’ve created this alphabet set so that the alphabet letters and word cards match up and can easily be used together. If you are following the Jolly Phonics method of teaching the phonetic sounds of the alphabet, you know that their method developed this grouping of letters (though they don’t use colour coding). Visit their website to learn more about their method and techniques.
However, even if you are not following Jolly Phonics exactly, breaking the alphabet into smaller groups of letters may be helpful if you are at the beginning stages of teaching young learners how to decode and blend English letter sounds, or for further practice.
And if you’re not yet teaching phonics, no matter: the children may just like the bright colours for their own sake!
NOTE: CVC Word Group 4 doesn’t actually include the letter q, but I’ve included q anyway– we see you, q, the alphabet just wouldn’t be complete without you!
